This piece is for sale in aid of Brain Tumour Reseach [link] - it took ~80 hours to make and you can make me an offer by note here on dA.
Inspired a line from *TheMadMulatto's poem 'Capillary Refill' [link] "Unforgiven pigeon, you will never be a raven"
A3 paper, colour and graphite pencils, indian ink.
I wanted to mix realism with cartoonish-ness and let it run... things in my head with the science of decay, and emotions of loss. Beech fungus. Cryptococcus infections... Friends who died of AIDs just as I left Yorkshire. Places you can't reach. Longing to be something you're not. And and and... Lots of fungus.
I love this combination, the color makes the graphite work stand out even more! The message of the piece is one that speaks to me, as it probably does to many artists, but your illustration of it is fascinating. I admire the thought processes behind tying in the fungus, infections, and the poor disguise of the pigeon. (Though for a pigeon, that would be genius, actually.) May hat is off to you on this one, were I wearing one!
I honestly think that this shows that at some point people want to be part of certain group and that is not bad, but you can never change what you are... that is why I really appreciate this artwork (even if my interpretation is wrong).
